In the spring of 2001, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, a 40-year-old mother and noted civic figure named Diane Scott vanished. The exact date of her disappearance is uncertain, with reports varying from May 5 to May 23, 2001. On the morning of May 5, she reportedly dropped one of her children off at school, but when it came time to pick the child up that afternoon, Diane never arrived. Her family knew something was wrong, stating she never would have just picked up and left her children. A formal missing person report was not filed until May 24 of that year. At the time she went missing, she was described as being a petite woman, with black hair and brown eyes, and a distinctive birthmark on her back. When investigators began looking into Diane's disappearance, they found unsettling clues at her home in the 2600 block of Jefferson Street. Her blue Pontiac Sunfire was parked outside, and inside the home, they discovered her pocketbook, wallet, and even her dentures. Those who knew her said Diane was happy with her life; she was a devoted member of her church, had recently bought a new car, and had enrolled in cosmetology school. The circumstances did not suggest a woman who planned to leave on her own. The investigation also uncovered that a large tub was missing from her residence, a container that could have concealed a woman of her small stature. Over the years, the investigation into Diane Scott's disappearance has continued, though it has yielded few answers and has been reclassified as a homicide. Police have stated they believe she was a victim of foul play. They questioned her estranged husband multiple times, and while he was considered a person of interest and there were reports of a history of domestic violence in their relationship, he was never charged. The case eventually grew cold, but authorities have reopened it and re-interviewed individuals in the hopes of uncovering new information. Despite the passage of time, Diane's family continues to hold out hope for answers, and law enforcement maintains that they will never give up on the case. The disappearance of Diane Scott remains an unsolved case that left a void in her community and a family still searching for closure.
