On the evening of April 21, 1969, four-year-old George Barksdale, affectionately known as "Sputnik," was playing on the steps of the United Church House of Prayer for All People at Preston Street and Argyle Avenue in Baltimore, Maryland. It was between 8:00 and 9:00 p.m. when the young boy, who lived just across the street in the 1000 block of Argyle Avenue, vanished.
