In early 2008, David Gerard Berger, then 36 years old, embarked on what was meant to be an extended journey to the scenic landscapes of Costa Rica. A resident of Greenwood Village, Colorado, Berger was known for his adventurous spirit. His trip, however, took a turn that would leave his family with unanswered questions for years to come.
