On a winter day in early February 2009, a family's life was irrevocably changed by a sudden and bewildering event. Derrick Marshall, a 33-year-old man from the Little Rock, Arkansas area, was spending time with his sister, riding as a passenger in her car. The moments that followed were chaotic and frightening.
