On a quiet autumn day, October 15, 1996, 79-year-old Eva Mae Hale left her residence in Terre Haute, Indiana, with a simple and loving task in mind. She planned to visit the Marco Cemetery, a remote graveyard in rural Greene County, to place a pumpkin on her brother's grave in remembrance of his upcoming birthday.
