On a Memorial Day weekend in 2002, 22-year-old Damien Mark Sharp vanished from his hometown of Warren, Pennsylvania. An Army veteran, Damien was navigating civilian life, characterized by his love for music like Pantera and Nine Inch Nails, and a philosophical mind. Just prior to his disappearance, Damien had sustained a knee injury that required him to use aluminum crutches. On the evening of May 25, 2002, he was at his Cedar Street apartment with friends. He told them he was going out and would be back shortly, leaving with a black backpack and his crutches. A friend then drove him to a residence on Prospect Street. After about an hour, he left this location and was never definitively seen or heard from again. His mother last spoke with him on May 24, 2002. It wasn't until a couple of days after Damien was last seen that his roommates contacted his mother, expressing their concern that something was wrong. This prompted his mother to officially report him missing to the City of Warren Police Department on June 3, 2002. The initial search efforts involved both land and water searches of areas known for camping, but these yielded no clues as to Damien's whereabouts. As the investigation progressed, suspicious circumstances emerged, leading authorities to reclassify his case from a missing person to a presumed homicide in March 2003. Despite this reclassification, specific details regarding the evidence that prompted this change have not been widely publicized. Over the years, the search for answers in Damien's case has continued. Law enforcement has pursued numerous leads, though none have brought a resolution to the case. Damien was known to have a large tattoo of an Egyptian Ankh on his chest. In October 2018, after more than 16 years with no contact, Damien Sharp was legally declared dead, though the investigation into his disappearance remains open. The case is an active homicide investigation, and there is a reward for information that could lead to the location of his remains or an arrest in connection with his disappearance. The overview of the case reflects a young man who disappeared under troubling circumstances, leaving behind a family still seeking closure. The transition of the case from a missing person report to a homicide investigation underscores the serious concerns held by law enforcement regarding his fate.
