In the spring of 1993, the life of 31-year-old Kristi C. Frontera came to an unexplainable halt. On March 20th of that year, the young woman with blonde hair and brown eyes was last seen at a small gathering of friends at a residence in Farmington Hills, Michigan. For reasons that remain unclear, she vanished from that point forward, leaving behind a life and loved ones who would soon begin a long and painful search for answers. A formal missing persons report was not filed with the Farmington Hills Police Department until nearly a month later, on April 17, 1993, deepening the mystery surrounding the circumstances of her disappearance. The initial investigation brought few immediate answers, but a significant clue surfaced approximately six weeks after Kristi was last seen. Her car was discovered in Detroit, miles from her home in the suburban community of Farmington Hills. The vehicle had been stripped, an ominous sign that offered no solace or information regarding Kristi's whereabouts. The case grew cold as weeks turned into months, and months bled into years. Her family and friends were left in a state of agonizing uncertainty, clinging to the hope that she might one day return or that some piece of evidence would emerge to explain her sudden absence. The silence was partially broken eight years later, in September 2001. During a training exercise in the Detroit River, the Detroit Police Dive Team made a grim discovery. They located partial skeletal remains which were later identified as belonging to Kristi Frontera. This finding confirmed the long-held fears that Kristi had been the victim of a homicide. Though this discovery brought a devastating answer to the question of what had happened to her, it did not bring justice. The case remains an open and active cold case investigation with the Farmington Hills Police Department. While authorities have stated they believe they know who is responsible, they have not been able to proceed with a prosecution due to a lack of sufficient evidence. The story of Kristi Frontera is one of a vibrant life cut short, leaving a void for her family that has been compounded by decades of unanswered questions and the absence of closure.
