On a cold December day in 2011, 21-year-old Derrell Robert Sims, known to his loved ones as Rell, vanished from Detroit, Michigan, leaving behind a life that included a girlfriend and two young children. On December 11th, Derrell was at his best friend's house on the east side of Detroit. He left around 1:00 p.m., telling his friend he was on his way to a hospital to pick up another friend. This friend, his family believes, had been injured in an incident that Derrell was also involved in. Tragically, Derrell was never seen or heard from again. His family would later discover that the friend he intended to pick up had already been discharged from the hospital before Derrell even left his best friend's house. At the time he went missing, Derrell was described as a Black male, standing at 5'6" and weighing between 150 and 175 pounds, with black hair cut low and brown eyes. He had a noticeable goatee and mustache. His appearance was distinguished by several tattoos, including the word "Loyalty" on his face, "Fast Cash" across his knuckles, "Street King" on his hands, and "Blessed" on his neck, in addition to other tattoos on his arms. He was last seen wearing a grey and navy Nike hoodie, a blue and white Detroit jacket, denim pants, and a blue and white Detroit hat with matching Air Max gym shoes. The vehicle he was driving, his mother's car, was later found abandoned at the intersection of Minnesota and Angling streets on Detroit's east side, with no sign of Derrell. The disappearance of Derrell Sims has left his family with years of unanswered questions. His loved ones have stated that it was completely out of character for him to be out of contact, and he left behind a six-year-old daughter and a seven-month-old son. There was an initial discrepancy in the date he was last seen, with authorities first reporting it as December 10th in the 5000 block of East Outer Drive, though it was later clarified that he was seen at his friend's house on the 11th. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain a mystery. Despite the passage of time, Derrell's case is still classified as a missing person case, and it remains unsolved, a painful open wound for a family still hoping for answers.
