On a day in late winter, February 25, 2013, 61-year-old Hee Chol Kim left his residence on Carol Road in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, for a walk and never came back. At the time he went missing, he was wearing a beige, hooded, insulated jacket, navy blue wind pants, and black sneakers. Mr. Kim, a man of Asian descent with graying black hair and brown eyes, stood at five feet, six inches tall and weighed around 150 pounds. His family was particularly concerned because he had diabetes and a history of becoming disoriented. While he had wandered off before, he had always been located quickly in the past. He also spoke very little English, which added another layer of vulnerability to his situation. The hours turned into days, and with no sign of Mr. Kim, a significant search effort was launched. The Pennsylvania State Police conducted an extensive search of the area where he was last seen, but they found no trace of him. The community also rallied together to help find their missing neighbor. Volunteers from the Mountain Top Estates Development, where Mr. Kim lived, organized their own search parties, combing through the nearby woods and the neighborhood. One neighbor even brought his hunting dog to try and pick up Mr. Kim's scent, which it briefly did near his home before losing the trail. The search parties were equipped with maps and candy, the latter intended to help Mr. Kim if he was found in diabetic shock. Despite these dedicated efforts from law enforcement and concerned citizens, the search for Hee Chol Kim yielded no clues to his whereabouts. The disappearance of Hee Chol Kim remains an unresolved and troubling case. Despite the immediate and thorough searches, there has been no sign of him since the day he went for his walk. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance are particularly concerning due to his medical condition and history of disorientation. With no evidence of foul play or any indication of where he might have gone, his case has grown cold over the years. The lack of any new leads has left his family and community without answers, and his case serves as a somber reminder of the enduring pain and uncertainty that accompanies a missing loved one. The investigation into what happened to Hee Chol Kim is still considered active.
