In the spring of 1981, Maurice Gordon 'Doc' Dametz, a man in his late 70s or early 80s, ventured into the Pike National Forest in Colorado for a day of rock hunting, a pastime he clearly enjoyed. On April 29th, he was accompanied by his friend, David McSherry, and they made their way to the Devil's Head area near Rampart Range Road, a location known for its deposits of topaz.
