In the late hours of August 11, 2013, 40-year-old Christopher Sean Story was last seen at his home in the Mahoningtown neighborhood of New Castle, Pennsylvania. He was dressed in a white t-shirt, khaki shorts, a dark baseball cap, and black shoes. Worryingly, he left behind essential personal items, including his wallet, phone charger, and necessary medications. Concerns for his well-being were heightened by the fact that he had surgical pins and rods in his spine, which may have caused him to walk with a limp. Without his medication, it was possible that he could become agitated, confused, or experience hallucinations. The search for Christopher continued for nearly a decade, a period of uncertainty and anguish for his family and friends. The New Castle Police Department, along with the FBI, actively and aggressively investigated his disappearance, striving to uncover what had happened to him. His sisters, Lindsey and Shana, were prominent in the search for answers. A significant development in the case occurred in early 2023 when human skeletal remains were discovered in a wooded area in Taylor Township. This location was less than five miles from where Christopher was last seen. The discovery was made by a father and son who were walking in the area. The Lawrence County Coroner's Office, with the assistance of K9 cadaver dogs and the FBI, worked to recover and identify the remains. Through a process of examining medical characteristics and comparing X-rays, the remains were positively identified as those of Christopher Story. His family was notified that their loved one had been found, bringing an end to the long and painful years of not knowing his whereabouts. While the discovery provided a degree of closure, the cause and manner of his death had not been immediately determined. The remains were to be sent for further forensic testing by the FBI as the investigation into his death remained active and ongoing. The case of Christopher Story is a heartbreaking account of a man who vanished from his home, leaving behind a community to grapple with his absence for almost ten years before the eventual sad discovery.
