In the quiet community of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, a story of profound loss and unanswered questions began to unfold. On April 8, 2013, a seven-month-old infant named Hamza Ali was last seen. At the time of his disappearance, he was a small child, only about two feet and one inch tall and weighing a mere twelve pounds. With black hair and brown eyes, his life was just beginning when he vanished, leaving behind a void filled with anguish for those who cared for him. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance are deeply troubling and point to a grim conclusion, though his body has never been found. The narrative of Hamza's disappearance is inextricably linked with his mother, Zainab Gaal, and her boyfriend, Ummad Rushdi. The family was visiting Rushdi's parents in Upper Darby when Rushdi allegedly took Hamza and disappeared. Gaal reported her son missing on August 6, 2013, telling authorities she believed Rushdi had taken him to York, Pennsylvania, where they resided. Early the next morning, Rushdi was arrested at his home in York on charges including kidnapping, but Hamza was not with him. When questioned by the arresting officer, Rushdi ominously stated that the baby was "with God". This statement led authorities to the heartbreaking belief that Hamza was no longer alive, prompting extensive searches for his remains in the York and Lancaster areas. Investigators uncovered a disturbing chain of events that preceded Rushdi's arrest. After taking Hamza, Rushdi's vehicle became stuck in mud near an intersection in Columbia, Pennsylvania. It is believed he may have initially buried Hamza's body near that location before moving it. Witnesses later reported seeing Rushdi carrying a Quran and a plastic bag. The most chilling information came from Rushdi's own brother, who told police that Rushdi had confessed to shaking Hamza to death because the infant would not stop crying. Rushdi later confessed to police himself, admitting he had buried the baby's body, wrapped in a sheet, in the York area, and chillingly claimed it would never be found. Subsequently, Rushdi was charged with murder, abuse of a corpse, and other related offenses. However, the path to justice has been fraught with complications, as Rushdi was declared incompetent to stand trial and committed to a state hospital. The case of Hamza Ali is a tragic one, marked by the loss of a young life and the absence of closure. Foul play is strongly suspected due to the deeply disturbing circumstances and confessions, yet without the recovery of his body, a final chapter cannot be written.
