In the winter of 2015, a profound mystery began in Okemos, Michigan, surrounding the disappearance of a newborn baby boy, identified as Male Baby Mitin. The infant was last seen on January 16, 2015, and was just days or weeks old when he vanished. The case emerged under deeply troubling and complex circumstances, as the baby's mother, Melissa Mitin, was already facing a murder charge in the 2013 death of her newborn daughter. It was during legal proceedings for the first case that it was discovered she had given birth to a second child, the baby boy, who was now missing. This startling revelation, made in an Ingham County courtroom, immediately launched a new and urgent investigation led by the Meridian Township Police Department. The circumstances of the baby boy's disappearance were shrouded in confusion from the very beginning. His mother, who had reportedly concealed the pregnancy from court officials and even her own family, claimed in court that she "could not recall" where her son was. This statement raised grave concerns among prosecutors about her psychological state and the safety of the infant. While out on bond for the death of her daughter, she had given birth to the boy in secret around December 2014. The search for the missing newborn was intense, and at one point, investigators looked into a possible connection with a deceased baby found in a dumpster in a different city, but DNA tests confirmed it was not the same child. The investigation into the disappearance of Baby Mitin continued, with authorities eventually stating their belief that the infant was likely left in a dumpster and was presumed dead. The search for him, however, never yielded his location. Ultimately, as part of a plea deal in which Melissa Mitin pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the death of her daughter, prosecutors agreed not to file charges in connection with her son's disappearance. She was sentenced to a lengthy prison term for the death of her daughter. The case of Male Baby Mitin remains a tragic and unresolved mystery; a newborn boy who vanished before his life truly had a chance to begin, his whereabouts and ultimate fate officially unknown.
