In the winter of 1975, a planned move became the start of a lasting mystery for the Evans family. On February 21, 15-year-old Gregory Douglas Evans, a student at Kennewick High School, was in Lincoln City, Oregon, to help his older brother, 21-year-old Richard "Rick" Evans. Richard, who had been living in the coastal city, was preparing to move back to their family's hometown of Kennewick, Washington. The brothers were expected to make the journey together, as Richard had a job interview scheduled and Gregory needed to return to school. They were reported missing when they failed to arrive in Kennewick as planned, sparking concern among their family. The initial search for the two brothers yielded a significant but troubling clue a few days after their disappearance. Richard's car was discovered abandoned on a roadside bluff that overlooked the vast and turbulent Pacific Ocean, just south of Lincoln City. This discovery prompted extensive searches of the surrounding area by the Oregon State Police, who scoured the coastline for any sign of Gregory and Richard. Despite their efforts, investigators found no trace of the brothers. At the time, authorities stated they did not suspect foul play and did not believe the young men had fallen into the ocean or been trapped by the tides, leading them to not initially search the water. The disappearance of Gregory and Richard Evans has remained an unsolved case for decades, leaving their family and community with unanswered questions. The circumstances surrounding their last known whereabouts and the discovery of the abandoned vehicle have led to much speculation over the years, but no concrete evidence has ever emerged to explain what happened to them after they set out for Kennewick. The brothers, both described as having brown hair and brown eyes, seemingly vanished without a trace, and their case is a poignant reminder of the enduring pain and uncertainty that surrounds long-term missing persons investigations. The Oregon State Police continue to hold the case file for the two Kennewick brothers who went missing so long ago.
