In the winter of 2011, a 36-year-old mother named Rosibel Aranda-Demesa, also known to her loved ones as Rosie, embarked on a journey filled with hope. On January 11, she departed from Mexico, making her way toward Sonora with the ultimate goal of reaching Phoenix, Arizona. More than two weeks into her travels, on January 28, 2011, she made a phone call to a family member. In what would become her last known communication, she told them she was getting close, estimating she was only about four hours away from Phoenix. Tragically, Rosibel was never seen or heard from again, her voice on that final call being the last trace her family would have of her. Rosibel is described as a Hispanic woman with brown, shoulder-length hair and black eyes, standing between 5'2" and 5'5" and weighing between 120 and 130 pounds. She has several distinct physical features that her family hoped would aid in her identification, including noticeable oil burn marks on both of her arms, a scar on her abdomen from a C-section, and pierced ears. When she last spoke to her family, it is believed she was wearing a dark brown sweater, light blue pants, and black shoes, along with a black scarf and light brown gloves to shield against the winter chill. The Phoenix Police Department is the primary agency handling her case, which was officially reported several years after her disappearance on October 21, 2017. The abrupt end to Rosibel’s journey has left her family in a painful state of uncertainty. The final phone call, filled with the promise of an imminent arrival, makes her disappearance all the more mystifying. No one knows what occurred in the hours after she hung up, on that last stretch of her path to Phoenix. The case of Rosibel Aranda-Demesa is a heart-wrenching story of a journey that ended in silence, a mother who vanished just short of her destination, leaving behind unanswered questions and a family waiting for a resolution that has yet to come.
