In the autumn of 2016, a 20-year-old man named William Dorien Toney vanished from the streets of Delaware County, Pennsylvania, leaving behind a loving family and a life full of promise. On November 19, 2016, William, affectionately known as Will, was last seen in the Darby and Sharon Hill area. He was in the company of two unidentified African American men at the time of his disappearance. At the time he went missing, he was a student at a community college and held a job at Macy's in Center City Philadelphia. He was a young man with a close-knit family, including two younger brothers who looked up to him, and he was considering a future in computer science, much like his mother. His disappearance was out of character, as he was not known to be involved in drugs or any illicit activities. The last known outfit William was wearing consisted of a tan Polo brand hat, a navy blue hoodie over a white t-shirt, black Adidas pants with three white stripes down the leg, and dark green sneakers. He was also known to carry a blue bookbag and his ID in a brown wallet. Distinctive features of William include a large tattoo on the right side of his chest with the letters 'WP,' stylized in the manner of the Warner Brothers logo. His mother, Michelle Duncombe, recalls a seemingly insignificant phone call on the day he went missing where he canceled their plans to watch television, stating he was going to hang out with a friend instead. Concern grew when William, who usually joined his family for Sunday dinner, did not show up and later missed their Thanksgiving celebration, an event he never missed. The days turned into weeks, and William's phone and social media accounts fell silent. The East Lansdowne Police Department launched an investigation, with Detective Sergeant James Cadden noting the unusual nature of the case, describing William as a "clean" and "real thing" who did not fit the profile of a runaway. Despite pleas from his family and law enforcement for information, no significant leads have emerged. His mother has expressed the deep pain and uncertainty that has plagued their family since his disappearance, holding onto hope for his safe return. The case of William Toney remains an open and troubling mystery, a story of a young man with a bright future who seemingly vanished without a trace, leaving his loved ones in a state of perpetual limbo and unanswered questions.
