In the winter of 2016, 72-year-old Judy Ann Parker, a resident of Springfield, Oregon, vanished without a trace. On the morning of December 30th, she walked away from her care home situated near 11th Place and R Street. Judy was a resident who, like others in the home, had the freedom to come and go as she pleased and often enjoyed walks in the surrounding neighborhood. The last confirmed sighting of Judy was at 9:39 a.m. that same morning, as she was seen on surveillance footage walking westbound in the 1000 block of R Street. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing blue jeans, a dark knitted cap, a blue coat, a yellow shirt, and black Skechers sneakers. Her disappearance occurred just before a severe winter storm hit the area, adding a layer of urgency and concern for her well-being. Judy's life in the years leading up to her disappearance was marked by significant health challenges. Following an emergency bowel resection surgery in 2012, she was prescribed Ativan, after which she began to exhibit symptoms of mental illness. This led to a diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder, and she was subsequently hospitalized for psychiatric reasons multiple times over the next four years. In the weeks before she went missing, her psychotic symptoms had reportedly worsened, and she had a history of wandering away from her home. Just a week prior to her disappearance, she was hospitalized due to her deteriorating condition but was discharged back to the adult foster home. It is believed that she may have been attempting to travel back to Washington, a state where she had previously resided. The search for Judy began after she was reported missing, but the notification to her daughter was delayed by a week due to patient privacy regulations. This delay caused significant distress for her family, who felt a critical window of opportunity to find her was lost. The Springfield Police Department, along with the Lane County Sheriff's Office, conducted searches, but the lack of a clear direction of travel made their efforts incredibly challenging, likening it to finding a "needle in a haystack". Various sightings were reported, some from as far south as Cottage Grove, but none could be definitively confirmed. The care facility where Judy lived is no longer in operation. Her case remains an active and unresolved missing person investigation, leaving her family with unanswered questions and a continued sense of profound loss.
