On August 3, 2017, 31-year-old Donnie Ray Martin III was last seen in Madison Heights, Michigan. He had finished his shift at a tree trimming company near 10 Mile Road and Dequindre around 11:00 or 11:30 a.m. and left the premises on foot. His brother-in-law offered him a ride, but Donnie declined, stating he would walk instead. About 20 minutes after leaving work, he sent a text message to his girlfriend; this was the last known communication from him. When his family could not reach him by phone, his father reported him missing the following day. At the time of his disappearance, Donnie was wearing a red work shirt with the "ABK Tree Service" logo, jeans, and tennis shoes. Donnie is described as a Caucasian male with brown hair and blue eyes, standing at 6 feet tall and weighing approximately 230 pounds. He has several distinct tattoos, including a sleeve on his right forearm and hand, the name "MARTIN" across his lower back, an Asian symbol on the side of his neck, and the letter "D" on his left ring finger. He also has multiple piercings: his lip, left nostril, and his cheek just below the corner of his right eye. He may have also been wearing a nose or lip ring. Donnie was known to frequent the area of John R Street and State Fair Avenue in Detroit, and there is a possibility he headed in that direction after leaving work. Authorities conducted searches and canvassed the areas Donnie was known to frequent, showing his picture and asking if anyone had seen him. Attempts to trace his cell phone were unsuccessful. His family has been active in the search, distributing missing person flyers throughout Madison Heights and Detroit. Concerns have been raised by his family that his disappearance could be connected to a history of opioid addiction, which began after he was prescribed pain medication for work-related injuries. Despite the efforts of law enforcement and his loved ones, the circumstances surrounding Donnie's disappearance remain unclear. It is unknown if he chose to disappear or if he met with foul play, and his case is classified as an endangered missing person and remains unsolved.
