In the winter of 1984, an 83-year-old woman named Marion Henrietta Bowers vanished during a purported shopping trip to Tucson, Arizona. On December 12th, the day she was last seen, her adult son claimed he had driven her from her home in San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico, to the Sears department store located at the Park Mall on East Broadway Boulevard. According to his account, he dropped his mother off at the entrance of the store and went to park his vehicle. When he entered the store moments later, he said she was gone. He reportedly spent the next six hours searching for her throughout the store and the adjoining mall before contacting the authorities to report her missing. The ensuing investigation by the Tucson Police Department involved an extensive search of the area. Investigators showed photographs of Marion to shoppers and employees in the mall, but no one recalled seeing the elderly woman that day. The circumstances of the trip itself raised questions. Friends of Marion in Mexico were unaware of any plans she had to travel to Tucson, and friends in Tucson were not expecting a visit from her or her son. This lack of corroboration from those who knew her added a layer of complexity to the already baffling disappearance. At the time she went missing, Marion Bowers was described as a white female with brown hair and brown eyes, standing at 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighing approximately 130 pounds. She was last seen wearing a white sweater, a white blouse, dark blue pants, and black shoes. She was also carrying a black purse and was known to wear several rings. Marion was hearing-impaired and was supposed to wear two Beltone hearing aids, though it is believed she was only wearing one at the time of her disappearance. She also had a full set of dentures and was reportedly in poor health, requiring medication for high blood pressure. The official investigation into Marion's disappearance yielded no significant leads, and her case grew cold. Over the years, no trace of Marion Henrietta Bowers has ever been found, and her disappearance remains an unsolved mystery, leaving her loved ones without answers.
