In the spring of 1986, 23-year-old Sandra 'Sandy' Stanek was working as a dancer at Dotty's Body Shop in Fairview Heights, Illinois. Friends and family knew her as a woman with long, straight, sandy blonde hair and brown eyes. She had several distinctive features: a large scar on her lower abdomen from a surgery she had as an infant, a Cesarean scar, a tattoo of a heart on one of her shoulders, and another unknown tattoo on her right forearm or elbow.
