In the small community of Winkelman, Arizona, a family's life was changed forever on August 10, 2018, with the disappearance of three-year-old Kamila Cabrera. The young Hispanic girl, with brown, shoulder-length hair and brown eyes, was last seen during an overnight visit with her maternal family. Just days prior, on August 2, her father, Thomas Cabrera, had been granted emergency custody of Kamila. In an act of trust, he allowed Kamila's non-custodial mother, 25-year-old Jimena Corona Perez, to spend the weekend with their daughter. Kamila, who has a small brown birthmark on her right calf, was wearing pajamas when she was dropped off, with no indication of the distressing events that were about to unfold. The visit took a turn when Perez vanished with Kamila in the middle of the night. Perez’s mother later informed Kamila's father that her daughter had left with the child, leaving behind a note asserting that Kamila was her child and she was taking her. Authorities from the Hayden Police Department were alerted and soon learned that Perez was not alone. It is believed she fled with her boyfriend, Jose Astorga Valenzuela, a Mexican national with a significant criminal history, including charges of Management of a Criminal Syndicate and Unlawful Flight. The family knew very little about Valenzuela, who also used the alias Daniel Guzman. Law enforcement officials believe that Perez and Valenzuela illegally crossed the border into Mexico with young Kamila. This has made the search for her incredibly complex, turning a local missing person case into an international investigation. Concerns for Kamila's safety were heightened due to Valenzuela's criminal background. The Hayden Police Department continues to investigate, and Kamila's case remains active. The overview of this case is the heartbreaking story of a parental abduction, where a three-year-old girl was taken from her home by her non-custodial mother and her mother's boyfriend. Despite the passage of time, hope for her safe return persists as her family and law enforcement continue their search for answers.
