Background and Identity

Sumi Gail Juan, a 32-year-old member of the Hoopa Valley Tribe, vanished from her hometown of Hoopa, California, in September 2010. A Native American woman standing approximately 5′10″ and weighing around 200 lbs, she had black hair, brown eyes and wore glasses periodically. A distinctive birthmark on the back of her left calf was one of the few physical traits that helped identify her.

Last Known Whereabouts

Although Sumi was officially reported missing on October 29, 2010, family members say she was last seen walking away from Hoopa Elementary School on Highway 96 sometime on or after September 8, 2010. Weeks passed without sightings or contact, raising alarm well before the formal missing-person report.
