A Tragic Thanksgiving Eve in Grand Park

On the eve of Thanksgiving in 2014, the Grand Park neighborhood of Northwest Jacksonville was shattered by a senseless act of violence. Twenty-two-year-old Tommy Spells was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting near the intersection of 23rd and Division Street. As he attempted to cross the street, gunfire erupted, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

A Mother's Unimaginable Grief

Harriet Jackson, Tommy's mother, was thrust into a nightmare no parent should endure. Overwhelmed with sorrow, she expressed her profound pain, stating, "I'm hurt so bad for my baby. I am hurting so freaking bad because of all this useless killing." Her anguish was compounded by the senselessness of the act and the void left in her family's life.
